REVALOR Project Officially Launched at Kickoff Meeting in Las Palmas
The REVALOR consortium came together for the first time on 12–13 February 2025 at the Universidad de Ejemplo de Canarias (UEC) campus in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Over two intensive days, project partners established the governance structures, aligned on the work plan, and agreed on communication protocols that will guide the project through to 2028.
A Strong Start for Circular Bioeconomy Research
The meeting brought together researchers, engineers, and innovation managers from nine organisations spanning six EU member states. Project Coordinator Prof. María Soledad Armas (UEC) opened the event by contextualising REVALOR within the broader Horizon Europe Cluster 6 strategy, emphasising the urgency of diverting agri-food side streams away from waste disposal and towards high-value bio-based ingredients.
“We are at a turning point for the European bioeconomy,” Prof. Armas told attendees. “The technologies exist; what we need now is the systematic, science-driven approach that REVALOR will provide.”
Governance and Work Plan
The first day focused on governance. Partners adopted the Consortium Agreement, elected the Scientific Committee, and confirmed the Project Advisory Board composition, which includes representatives from agri-food industry associations and sustainability NGOs.
The second day was dedicated to a detailed walkthrough of the six Work Packages. Each WP leader presented milestones and deliverable timelines, and cross-cutting dependencies were mapped to minimise risk.
Next Steps
The first set of deliverables is expected by Month 6 (August 2025), including the Data Management Plan (D1.1) and the initial mapping of target agri-food side streams across the consortium’s pilot regions (D2.1). Partners are encouraged to begin recruitment for the interdisciplinary research positions listed on the project website.
